Celebrating Student Volunteers

Celebrating Student Volunteers

Thank you to our student volunteers

Student volunteers are being celebrated in a series of films, produced by the University's digital media team.

More than 2,000 students from the University of Sheffield dedicate their time to causes and organisations in the city.

The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Students’ Union give students the opportunity to give back to the local community and make a positive impact. Student volunteers have worked on a range of projects, from assisting mental health charities to preparing and serving meals to the homeless.

We hope you are inspired by these students and volunteer in your city too!

Awards & Recognition

We love celebrating our student volunteers and the impact they make! This might be on our social media channels, on our blog, or at National Awards ceremonies (Sheffield SU hosted the National Volunteering and Fundraising Awards in June 2022 and two Sheffield Volunteering projects won awards!)

As a student volunteer, you can use your fantastic community volunteering experiences to populate your MySkills profile. Keeping your MySkills profile up-to-date by reflecting on your developmental experiences will really benefit you now, and in the future when applying for jobs and work placements.

If you are an undergraduate and you started your studies before September 2021, you can gain HEAR recognition for your community volunteering. See more guidance here or get in touch with any questions on volunteering@sheffield.ac.uk.

Volunteering Committee

The Volunteering Committee is a Working Committee, a group of elected students who work alongside Sheffield Volunteering staff to create a connected community of volunteers and celebrate their achievements and contributions. Throughout the year, the committee hosts events, runs campaigns, and raises the profile of student volunteering.

See what they’re up to on their social media channels!

Volunteering Ambassadors

Volunteering Ambassadors support the Committee in their various events and campaigns, and also can sign up to be GIAG Volunteering Activity Buddies. Being an ambassador is very rewarding as you will develop a range of skills, feel a sense of achievement, and be part of a team of like-minded students! Ambassadors are not elected but must attend training and commit to a certain amount of involvement.

Register your interest in being an ambassador by emailing:
